exit (a gallery space) presents:

Kortney Niewierski
That's Nice...

April 6th - May 5th 2007

Artist's reception: Friday. April 13th 2007. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

exit (a gallery space) is pleased to present, That’s Nice…, an installation of sculpture by Cleveland area artist Kortney Niewierski.

In her first solo exhibition at exit (a gallery space), Kortney’s current body of work explores anatomical imagery and those slightly recognizable human or animal-like forms.  Combined with fantastical organic shapes Kortney’s work achieves a balance between the peculiar and the sexual with creations that are intended to intrigue our curious side while at the same time, repel us by their oddity and sexual innuendo. Whether the fabric-skinned objects are toys or creatures, human or animal, they all suggest a malformation at the cellular level and a regression into childhood.  While body parts and sexy forms dominate the vision of the work and imagery of the pieces, there is an underlying tone of self-evaluation.

In 2005 Kortney received her MFA in sculpture from Kent State University and is currently teaching there as an adjunct professor in sculpture. Kortney’s work has been shown in group exhibitions at Spaces, the Ohio State University as well as exit (a gallery space) where she was awarded best of show in last year’s exhibition juried by Robert Thurmer.
