exit (a gallery space) presents:

BUSY
an installation of new resin works by Nathan Haenlein

November 10th – December 3rd, 2006

Artist's reception: Friday, November 10th, 2006. 6 - 9 pm

exit (a gallery space) is pleased to present, BUSY, an installation of resin works by Sonoma, California artist Nathan Haenlein.

Haenlein’s current body of work explores ideas around consumption and new acts of drawing as a creative outlet in which to experiment and play. In Haenlein’s work the action of drawing is essential; as the action accumulates and repeats, it transcends meaning and a formalized mode of creation.

Additionally Haenlein seeks to address capitalist ideologies, the digital age, repetition and new cultural trends. With pristine surfaces and the flash of commercial design, Haenlein grabs the viewer and challenges them to wonder what it is they are consuming. Will this object fit with my Ipod / Volkswagen / Banana Republic lifestyle, or is this a distortion of capitalism?

Nathan Haenlein was born in Michigan and now lives and works in Northern California.   He received his MFA from the University of Iowa and is currently an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. Haenlein’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and most recently he has had solo shows in Marfa, TX, and Washington D.C., His work is in the public collection of the Center for Visual Arts, Toledo, OH; Kalkograsski Ateijie Butkovic, Rijeka, Croatia; the Museum of Art, Iowa City, IA; the National Palace of Art, Minsk, Belarus; the Tama Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan; as well as many others.
